Bring your very own anime character to life—literally—by creating your very own Animegao Kigurumi mask at Anime North 2026! Join us for an exciting, hands-on workshop where you’ll build a custom starter mask and step into the world of performance cosplay.
Workshop Details:
- Date & Time: Friday May 22, 2026 6:00pm – 9:00pm
- Duration: 3 hours
- Cost: $175.00 (Covers all materials and tools required)
- Participants: Limited to 12 people (16+only, minors must be accompanied by adults that will aid and participate with construction)
Whether you’re a curious observer or ready to build, everyone is welcome! Attendance is free for observers who want to learn. For those who wish to create, a workshop fee of $175.00 covers all materials to build your own mask that is ready to wear for the rest of the convention!
What You’ll Do:
The workshop begins with an introduction to the art of Animegao Kigurumi—its history, famous makers, and fabrication techniques. Then, the real fun starts!
Paid participants will build a customized entry-level mask with choices including:
- Eye Designs & Colors: Pick the perfect look for your character.
- Eyelash & Eyebrow Styles: Add expressive details.
- Wig Style & Color: Complete the look of your mask with “Anime Hair” in a variety of colours. (Basic styling only due to time limitations.)
All workshop kigurumi masks are designed to present as female. However, participants of all genders are welcome and encouraged.
We will guide you every step of the way, including adding interior padding and making fit adjustments to ensure your mask is comfortable and ready to wear.
If you have a generic non-character specific cosplay such as a Lolita dress, maid uniform, kimono, or shrine robe please feel free to wear it to the workshop or bring it with you to change into at the end, so you can transform into your new Kig character once your mask is complete! Note that while the mask kits provided at this workshop offer many possible variations, all masks are based on a generic shell that might not perfectly match a character you hope to mimic if you have one in mind; however, we will try their best to find the best match with the available customizations.
