Be-a-Kig Adventure (BaKA) Workshop: A Hands-On Kigurumi Cosplay Experience

We’re sure you’ve seen those masked bobble-headed anime characters wandering around Anime North all these years and wondered “How do they see?” or thought “How do they breathe in there?”  Or perhaps you’ve been looking to push your cosplay to the next level and transform into an actual anime character?

Workshop Details:

Here’s your chance to find out in this exclusive, full-immersion workshop at Anime North!  Come  experience what it’s like to perform as a Animegao Kigurumi Cosplayer.

  • Date & Time: Saturday May 23, 2026 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Cost: $15.00 (covers laundry/cleaning)
  • Participants: Limited to 8 people, adults only (18+) . No walk-ins; pre-registration required. Registration will close one week before the workshop as we will need to contact participants for sizing information. You can bring one (1) person max with you to observe and assist you with the workshop experience, please note that the person will not partake in the kigurumi cosplay experience.

This is a unique, hands-on opportunity to step into the costume and experience Kigurumi cosplay firsthand. All you need to bring is your own cosplay outfit—we provide the rest: a professional mask, foundation garments, and guidance every step of the way.

What to Expect:

  • Learn the Basics: We’ll start with a short introduction to Animegao Kigurumi, covering costume components, performance expectations, posing, and how to act in character.
  • Get into the Character: With the help of experienced Kigurumi performers, you’ll change into foundation garments, cosplay and have your mask fitted.
  • Strike a Pose: Enjoy a short, guided photo session. Digital photos will be emailed to you after the workshop.
  • Live the Experience: Here’s the main event! We’ll embark on a short walk outside of the workshop room and mingle with the convention guests to experience what it’s truly like to interact with people while “in Kig”—all with experienced handlers guiding you.
  • Wrap-Up: After returning and changing out, we’ll have a quick debriefing session to share thoughts and answer any questions.

VERY IMPORTANT Notes:

  • Participants must be 18 years or older.
  • Space is limited to 8 people to ensure a quality experience.
  • The masks provided are of female presenting characters but performers of all genders are welcome. (Trust me, the guys that try it have the best time ever!)
  • Please bring a generic cosplay outfit, such as a Lolita dress, Maid uniform, Kimono, or Shrine Maiden Robe. (We provide the mask, body suit, and wig, as well as some shapeware.)
  • There may be some forms of cosplay available but sizing is limited and not guaranteed.
  • Participants wanting to experience the full immersive experience will need to change into some specialised garments.  There will be change rooms available but space is limited. (Please note that changing is optional.)
  • We will be contacting registrants for information about sizing and other details at least a week prior to the workshop.
  • We reserve the right to decline entry or remove participants and their guests at any time for any inappropriate behaviour and misconduct.
  • If you cannot produce a piece of valid government photo ID (ie. driver’s license, Ontario Photo Card or passport) at the time of the workshop, you will be turned away and your ticket is non-refundable.  Please note that a picture of your ID is not acceptable.  Please note that we will NOT be accepting Health Cards as a valid form of ID.
  • No spectating allowed for this workshop.

Don’t just wear a cosplay of a character, BE the character. Join us for an unforgettable journey “in Kig”!
